Recently, Facebook has conducted a research on what American’s view in News Feed. It has created a bot to crawl the categorized news and it was carried out from ideologically diverse sources. The crawling bot considers headlines and starting few words of the news article. It has unveiled the Facebook’s strategy to emerge as top search engine and remain as a strong competitor to Google.

How the reading bot perform?

To connect political affiliation of Americans to shared new sources, Facebook has created a Support Vector Machine (SVM). The SVM examines the first few words of article; it is built in such a way that it considers only first few words of articles shared on Facebook. Therefore, on those factors the SVM has outlined almost 226,000 unique articles, which were shared at least 100 times.

The research was criticized easily and failed to reach their expectation.

As per the research, only quarter parts of politically associated Americans are connected to ideologically diverse news. The research is restricted to those with political description in their profile, which appears as below:

The “Add a Link” option on Facebook allows you to add the webpage into your profile. Here, the main quest is how you can view the result of webpage search (means what you see in Google search engine result page) inside Facebook webpage. To do so, those pages must be indexed first. And it’s quite difficult to target those results based on user’s choice.

Facebook has already crawled almost 1 trillion link post just whenever user shared a link on their profile. So, in order to move further, it is desperate to crawl everything else on the World Wide Web. It appears to be the same as what Google+ tried to be, however the “+” part arrived first.
